History and Lore about the Freesia
Freesias were taken to England by a botanist in the 18th century and their popularity quickly spread and remains strong today. The french have developed some of today's most popular hybrids. Freesia were named in honor of Friedrich Heinrich Theodor Freese (1795-1876),a German physician.

Freesias have ben cultivated in shades of white, purple, yellow, pink and bi-colors. Their fragrance can be sweet to spicy and have tones of gardenia and carnation.
